COLBORNE – Member artists of The Colborne Art Gallery are honoured to be opening up their beautiful heritage gallery to 49 special guest artists for their second annual Open Juried Show from July 12 to Aug 17.

Olexander Wlasenko, curator of the Station Gallery in Whitby, has taken on the challenge of choosing among the 131 submissions received from 58 artists. Of these, 52 works from 49 artists have been selected for the show.

Wlasenko was impressed with the high calibre of talent he saw among the entries, in both the expressive quality of the imagery and the handling of materials.

Many of these pieces seem to have a story to tell, prompting the viewer to ask, “what's going on here?” A broad diversity of media are represented by the chosen works, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fibre art and jewelry, with artists representing a broad geographic range, from Toronto to New Brunswick.

The 16 members of the artist-run co-operative gallery applaud all of the applicants for taking a chance on submitting their work, and appreciate the support this has provided for the gallery.

Several awards will be presented at the opening reception, including Juror’s Choice (selected by Wlasenko and sponsored by gallery members), Mayor's Choice (chosen and presented by Cramahe Township Mayor Marc Coombs) and three honourable mentions (sponsored by Ganaraska Art and Framing of Port Hope, Cree Organics of Colborne, and Rhonda's Framing of Colborne).

The opening reception and awards presentation, with the artists present, will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. You are invited to meet the guest artists and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere at the Colborne Art Gallery. The show runs through Aug. 17.

The gallery is located at 51 King St. E. in Colborne, and hours are Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
