October 1 to November 6, 2016
The opening reception with artist present will be held on
Saturday, October 1 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
Artist Jillian Roos-Markowitz explores both the exterior world and an inner spiritual realm in her solo exhibition titled Infinite Light.
The work of this show begins where her solo show of four years ago, Into the Light, left off. In an intuitive drawing of a piece of bark, she allowed her hand to move under its own accord, following lines, rhythms and shapes as perceived by the inner self. Images emerged as miraculous maps of the spiritual interior, seemingly impossible landscapes of fluid lines and jagged peaks. Further drawings have been created in this manner, using a fragment from a geode and other objects of personal significance.
From these original drawings, compositions have been traced and reworked in several series of fibre art pieces and linocut prints. The fibre art pieces are contemplative sonatas composed from silk fabric, hand embroidery and delicate beadwork. The linocuts explore the repetitive features of printmaking, discovering patterns and motifs hidden in the lines.
Please join us on October 1 for a short artist talk. Artwork by gallery members will also be on display.
All are welcome, admission is free, and The Colborne Art Gallery is wheelchair accessible. Hours are Thursday to Sunday, 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm.
