Second Annual Open Juried Exhibition
July 12 – August 17, 2014
The member artists of The Colborne Art Gallery are delighted to be opening up our beautiful Heritage Gallery to forty-nine special guest artists in our second annual Open Juried Show.
Our Curator
Our guest Curator Olexander Wlasenko, Curator of the Station Gallery in Whitby, had the challenge of reviewing 131 submitted works in order to select this collection. The exhibit will showcase an incredibly diverse range of mediums and styles, a tribute to the talents of artists from Northumberland County and adjacent counties, the GTA, and as far away as New Brunswick!
Dates & Times
The Second Annual Open Juried Show will run from July 12th to August 17th, 2014.
An opening reception and awards presentation with the artists present will be held on Saturday, July 12th from 2-4 pm.
Reminder: Unsold artwork must be picked up at the end of the show: Sunday August 17 between 3 and 6 pm or Monday August 18 between 10 am and noon.
Award winners are:
Audrey Smith, “Vulnerable”: Juror’s Choice award sponsored by The Colborne Art Gallery and selected by Olexander Wlasenko, Curator, Station Gallery (“The ambitious scale of this work opens a one-to-one dialogue between the pensive sitter and her viewer. The brushwork is rich, expressive and confident; the sitter on the other hand is placid, subdued and vulnerable. A nice juxtaposition plays out in this work. Congratulations on such a successful composition!”)
Gerald Banting, “Still Life in the Spaulted Spring”: Honorable Mention Patron’s award, selected by Olexander Wlasenko and sponsored anonymously (“A technical tour-de-force! A masterful technique combined with a fluid composition. The tantalizing lines and tones evoke natural forms and haunting spectres.”)
Angela Hennessey, “Nightfall”: Honourable Mention award selected by Olexander Wlasenko and sponsored by Ganaraska Art & Framing, Port Hope (“This work exudes an enigmatic mood. It’s beautifully presented and skillfully executed. With this piece, we venture into ‘the mystery’.”)
Marion Meyers, “Blue Poppies in the Birches”: Honourable Mention award selected by Olexander Wlasenko and sponsored by Cree Organics, Colborne (“A true gem. The floral and formal forms resonate in wonderful unity. I enjoyed the depth and images suspended in wax. Wonderful!”)
Marcela Rosemberg, “Payasa”: Honourable Mention award selected by Olexander Wlasenko and sponsored by Rhonda’s Framing, Colborne (“An exquisite combination of glass and metal. Beautiful, vivid colours!”)
Nancy Moore, “Snowy Pines at Sunset”: Mayor’s Choice award, sponsored by Cramahe Township and selected by Mayor Marc Coombs.
