The member artists of The Colborne Art Gallery are honoured to be opening up our beautiful Heritage Gallery to forty-nine special guest artists in our second Annual Juried Show.

Olexander Wlasenko, curator of the Station Gallery in Whitby, has taken on the challenge of choosing among the 131 submissions received  from  58 artists.  Of these, 52 works from 49 artists have been selected for the show.

Mr Wlasenko was impressed with the high calibre of talent he saw among the entries, in both the expressive quality of the imagery and the handling of materials.  Many of these pieces seem to have a story to tell, prompting the viewer to ask, “what's going on here?”  A broad diversity of media are represented by the chosen works, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fibre art and jewellery, with artists representing a broad geographic range, from Toronto to New Brunswick.

As an artist-run co-operative, our 16 members are involved in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the Gallery as well as creating the artwork for our eight shows each year.  The Annual  Juried Show is a way for our members reach out to artists in the local community and beyond to allow an opportunity for others to exhibit.

Applying to a juried show is a difficult task that many artists must experience in their careers.  Despite the occasional disappointment of having work declined for a show, most artists find that it is a worthwhile process in our evolution as artists.

We wish to applaud all of the applicants for taking a chance on submitting their work and we appreciate the support this has provided for the Gallery.

In offering an annual juried show we wish to share our charming location and exceptional exhibition space.  Perhaps this will be your first visit as you support a friend or family member who submitted to the show.  Once you’ve visited we hope you'll become a regular, joining our dedicated group of supporters who attend our lively opening receptions or stop by on a visit to Colborne.

Several awards will be presented at the opening reception, including Juror’s Choice, selected by Olexander Wlasenko and sponsored by the members of The Colborne Art Gallery, Mayor's Choice, chosen and presented by Cramahe Township Mayor Marc Coombs, and three honourable mentions, sponsored by Ganaraska Art and Framing of Port Hope, Cree Organics of Colborne, and Rhonda's Framing of Colborne.

The opening reception and awards presentation with the artists present will be held on Saturday, July 12th from 2-4pm.  Please join us to meet our guest artists and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere at The Colborne Art Gallery.

The second Annual Juried Show will run from July 12th to August 17th, 2014.
