ARTIST STATEMENT
As I look at the world around me, I constantly ask myself what it is that makes the scene beautiful or interesting, and why it inspires me. I look for shapes, for the intersection of light and shadow, and for the glow of reflected light. As an artist, I try to understand these phenomena and I feel compelled to recreate them on paper. I see my surroundings as a painting yet to be realized.

I am a mostly self-taught artist working either en plein air or in my studio in Colborne Ontario. Although I started my artistic endeavours in oils when I lived in Temagami, Ontario (painting the beautiful north), I now paint mostly in watercolours and acrylics and in my favourite medium -soft pastels. My subjects of choice are landscapes and florals as well as street scenes and house portraits.
The paintings in this show (all pastel) are for the most part based on photographs I took on my travels, or scenes closer to home.
I am inspired by my surroundings ( I love painting en plein air all around Northumberland County) and like many artists, I have enjoyed participating in workshops and learning from other accomplished artists. I studied watercolour at Buckhorn school of art, at Southampton School of Art, at Mohawk College in Brantford, at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, Ontario, as well as from Davona Paquette, a celebrated watercolour artist from Ayr, Ontario. I studied pastel painting with artist Dave Beckett as well as Sharon Fox-Cranston and I have learned from many lessons and courses online in recent years.
I am a member of the Colborne Art Gallery, and I also display my work in Port Hope at the Northumberland Arts Gallery and Shop. My paintings will also be on display at the upcoming Apple Route Studio tour June 22/23 and the Rednersville Road Art Tour in September.
